CMK 2022 offers a fantasy island of cutting-edge technology with which educators can invent the future.
For the first time in fifteen years, the Constructing Modern Knowledge summer institute is trading Manchester, New Hampshire for Chattanooga, Tennessee – July 25-28, 2022. One reason for the journey south is the generosity of our partners at the Public Education Foundation and their generous loan of the Global Center for Digital Innovation. All of this summer’s learning adventures will take place in a state-of-the-art facility stocked full of hardware, tools, and workspaces few of us can even dream of.
CMK is known for its mountain of computational materials, craft supplies, toys, books, and assorted junk – all potential objects-to-think-with. We endeavor to have anything potentially useful or inspirational within arm’s reach of our participants. We stock an abundance of microcontrollers, electronic elements, plus hand tools, soldering irons, plus a few 3D printers, a sewing machine, and embroidery machine.
Hosting Constructing Modern Knowledge at the Global Center for Digital Innovation gives participants an embarrassment of riches. In addition to spectacular spaces large and small, the GCDI is filled with laser cutters, countless filament 3D printers, liquid resin printers, vinyl cutters, large format printers, inverted mold maker, CNC machine, lathe, saws, soldering stations, and even a water cutter capable of cutting steel. This access expands the breadth, depth, and range of possible projects. Whether your school can afford this technology currently, CMK 2022 allows you to experience the future.
The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

I just visited the site in preparation for this July’s institute and was blown away. Take a look at some of the drool worthy photos I snapped on my iPhone and then register for Constructing Modern Knowledge. CMK is a labor of love and dependent on participation for its existence. This may be your only chance to learn in such a rich environment, supported by our terrific faculty and remarkable guest speakers.
